WILSON – A contractor closed the Pelt Road bridge over the Ivy Swamp in Wilson County on Monday to begin replacing the bridge.
The road is expected to reopen in December. Drivers should use St. James Church and Red Hill roads as a detour.
The bridge is one of two being replaced by Dane Construction Inc. of Mooresville, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $1.2 million contract in June.
Work on the other bridge, which is on Red Hill Road in Wayne County, will begin after the Pelt Road project is completed.
