Public Meeting Scheduled for Roadway Upgrades in Apex

APEX – The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting this week regarding the proposed widening of N.C. 55 (Williams Street) between U.S. 1 and north of Olive Chapel Road in Apex. The primary purpose of the project is to reduce congestion along the roadway and improve safety conditions.

N.C. 55 is primarily a three-lane highway through the proposed project corridor. With significant growth forecast for the area, the proposal would upgrade the road to mostly a median-divided four-lane road, with pedestrian and bicycling accommodations.

Maps of the preliminary proposed project plans can be found on the NCDOT public meeting website.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Apex Town Hall, 73 Hunter Street. Interested residents may attend at any time during the meeting hours, as no formal presentation will be made.

NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and listen to comments regarding the project. Comments may also be submitted via email or phone by September 30. Comments received will be taken into consideration as the project is finalized.

For additional information or to submit a comment after the meeting, contact NCDOT Project Manager Zahid Baloch, P.E., at 919-707-6012; or Consultant Project Manager Candace Andre at 919-741-5346.
