3 Primary Routes in Sampson County to Be Resurfaced

CLINTON – Sections of three major routes in Sampson County will be repaved in the coming months, thanks to a new contract from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The routes are:

  • N.C. 24 between Plum Lane/Loop Road and the Duplin County line
  • N.C. 41 between Ward Road and Wallace Highway
  • N.C. 411 between the Roseboro County line and Garland

In addition, eight secondary roads will be resurfaced.

In all, almost 50 miles of roadway asphalt will be refreshed after the NCDOT  awarded a $9.9 million contract to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro.

Work can start as early as Oct. 1, with all paving scheduled to wrap up by November 2019.

This is one of six road and bridge projects the department awarded this month. The contracts went to the lowest qualified bidder, as required by state law. They are worth $166.2 million, which is $16.3 million under engineer estimates.
