Public Comments Sought for U.S. 74 Improvements in Anson County

WADESBORO – The public is invited to provide input on a project under development aimed at improving safety and traffic flow along a congested section of U.S. 74 in Anson County.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to construct a median along East Caswell Street (U.S. 74) between Graham Street and Allen Pond Road in Wadesboro. The project would convert the existing five-lane section into a four-lane, median divided roadway.

The Rocky River Rural Planning Organization, which promotes transportation projects in Anson, Stanly and Union counties, submitted the proposed project for funding consideration under the Strategic Mobility Formula because the highway has high levels of congestion and truck traffic. The project would reduce the risk of crashes, while providing more efficiency for traffic. The project scored well and received funding to be built.

A public meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Anson County Schools District Office, 320 Camden Road in Wadesboro. People may attend the meeting at any time, as no formal presentation will be made.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, they may submit comments in writing, by phone or email through Sept. 26. All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design.

More information and a map of the proposed improvements can be found here.
