Lane Closure Set for Southbound Capital Boulevard on Saturday

RALEIGH – Drivers planning to use southbound Capital Boulevard near downtown Raleigh on Saturday morning, Sept. 8, need to pay extra attention as there will be a lane closure in place. The contractor for the Capital Boulevard bridges project will be closing the outside southbound lane from Peace Street to the end of the project.

The closure is expected to be in place from 6 a.m. until about noon. It is needed for work being done in advance of a possible traffic switch late this month onto the new square loop interchange for Capital Boulevard and Peace Street. When that happens, the southbound Capital Boulevard on/off ramp at Peace Street will permanently close. Instead drivers will cross over Peace Street on a new bridge, then use Johnson Street and Harrington Street to intersect with Peace Street at a new traffic light.

Drivers should be watching for the lane closure signs on southbound Capital Boulevard on Saturday and anticipate possibly needing extra time to get through the work area, although the other two southbound lanes in that area will remain open.

Updated information on the bridge project is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as through the department’s Triangle twitter feed.
