Comments Sought for Proposed Mallard Creek Road Widening

CHARLOTTEThe public is invited to weigh in on a project under development to widen a section of Mallard Creek Road between Interstate 485 in Mecklenburg County and Concord Mills Boulevard in Cabarrus County. It is intended to improve capacity and traffic flow as traffic increases in the area.

The project was initially submitted for funding consideration by the former Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization, now the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization. The opening of I-485 in 2015 supports the need to widen the roadway as traffic volumes have increased up to 65 percent near the Mallard Creek Road interchange.

More information and a map of the proposed improvements can be found on the NCDOT Public Meeting website.

A public meeting is set for 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 13200 Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte. People may attend the meeting at any time, as no formal presentation will be made. It is an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions of NCDOT representatives and submit comments.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, they may submit comments by mail, phone or email through Nov. 12. All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design.
