Repaving Coming for Southern Wake County Roads

FUQUAY-VARINA – Thanks to a N.C. Department of Transportation contract, more than 40 miles of secondary roads in southern Wake County could start getting new surfaces this fall.

As early as Nov. 1, contractors from Fred Smith Company of Raleigh will begin repaving 91 sections of secondary roads throughout the lower portion of the county, including parts of Pierce Olive Road, Wake Chapel Road and Judd Parkway Southeast.

To avoid impacts on popular commuting-time traffic routes, crews will be restricted from closing or narrowing roadway lanes from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Contractors are expected to complete the paving work on Jordan Road and Little Creek Drive by Aug. 23, 2019. All remaining paving work is expected to be finished by Nov. 30, 2019.

As work commences, detour routes will be made available to navigate around the worksites.

It is one of 14 road and bridge projects recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The contracts went to the lowest qualified bidder, as required by state law. They are worth $507.7 million, which is $12 million under engineer estimates.
