Chickenfoot Road to Close This Weekend in Cumberland County

HOPE MILLS – The installation of drainage pipes associated with a safety improvement project will require a stretch of Chickenfoot Road in Cumberland County to close this Friday night.

An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor needs to close the road near Sandhills Road from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, to install two pipes underneath the roadway. The closure of Chickenfoot Road is just south of the exit 41 interchange with Interstate 95.

A detour will send motorists onto Sandhills Road, Cypress Lakes Road and H. Bullard Road to access Chickenfoot Road.

The contractor is improving the safety of the road by realigning Sandhills Road and Braxton Road to form one intersection with Chickenfoot Road. A traffic signal will be installed as part of the project, which also requires the new drainage pipes. If the contractor is unable to install both pipes this weekend, the contractor will close the road again over a future weekend to complete the work.
