Detour to Reroute Traffic Around Davidson County Bridge Projects

THOMASVILLE - The replacement of two old bridges will close portions of a Davidson County roadway for about a year starting later this week.

Clodfelter Road will close starting Thursday, Dec. 6, as work crews replace the bridge over Abbotts Creek near Lake Thom-A-Lex, and later the bridge over nearby Brushy Fork Creek.

The road will reopen at the Abbotts Creek bridge once work is concluded there, and immediately close at Brushy Fork Creek to begin the second bridge replacement.

Local traffic will be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area, up to the points of closure.

Replacement of each bridge is expected to last about 6 months, with a tentative project completion date of Dec. 6, 2019.

The work is essential as the existing bridges, built in 1951, have reached the end of their life cycle and are now considered structurally deficient. That means they are safe but need to be replaced.

Signs will be in place to direct motorists on a detour during the closure, using Ridge, Yokely and Old Greensboro roads. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.
