NCDOT Crews Working Around the Clock to Clear Triad Area Roads

RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation crews continue to focus on clearing wintry precipitation from major roadways  in the Triad region, which saw more than a foot of snow in some areas.

More than 370 workers and 290 plow trucks went out on de-icing duty Sunday in the department’s 7th and 9th highway divisions, which include Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

Crews are working around the clock to get the roads clear, targeting the primary routes first and then transitioning to the secondary roads.

Some interstates and other primary routes remain covered with snow and ice in Division 7 (Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Orange and Rockingham counties), and some are partially cleared.

Four- and two-lane primary routes are mostly covered with ice and snow in Division 9 (Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rowan and Stokes counties). Secondary roads across the division remain 90 percent untouched.

Crews in both divisions are also mobilizing staff to cut and remove downed trees from roadways.
