Carteret County Road Damaged During Hurricane Florence to be Closed for Repairs

NEWPORT – The N.C. Department of Transportation made temporary repairs to immediately reopen a Carteret County road after it was damaged by Hurricane Florence, but now crews will close it for most of January to make permanent repairs.

Lake Road will be closed from Jan. 2 through Jan. 26, to replace a culvert. This work will repair the road and improve drainage in the area. The project will cost about $130,000.

During the closure, drivers should use Nine Foot Road, U.S. 70 and Miller Boulevard as a detour.

Drivers are urged to use caution when approaching the closure, and to anticipate possibly needing extra time to travel through the area because of the detour.
