Bridge Demolition on I-85 Corridor will require Detours

CHARLOTTE – As work continues to widen Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County, crews will close the bridge taking Moose Road over the highway on Thursday, Feb. 1, weather permitting. Contractor Blythe Construction will start demolition work the week of Feb. 5, which will require detours in conjunction with the I-85 widening in Rowan County.

To perform the work safely, one lane will be closed on I-85 South from Exit 68 (N.C. 152) to Exit 63 (Lane Street) starting at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. At midnight, crews will close the northbound lanes at Exit 63. During the closure, traffic will be detoured off the interstate to Lane Street to U.S. 29 North back to I-85 North. All lanes will open by 6 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The detours will also be in place Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Feb. 6 and 7.

Crews will continue demolition work in the opposite direction Thursday and Friday, Feb. 8 and 9. At 9 p.m., one lane will close on I-85 North from Exit 63 to Exit 68. At midnight, crews will close the southbound lanes at Exit 68. During the closure, traffic will be detoured along U.S. 29 South to Lane Street back to I-85 South. All lanes will open by 6 a.m. each day.

While Moose Road is closed, traffic will be detoured along Turkey Road, Lane Street and China Grove Road. The contractor anticipates completing the project in September.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
