Bridge Inspections on I-40 Require Intermittent Lane Closures

One Lane Will Remain Open in Each Direction

WILMINGTON--Motorists who travel on Interstate 40 over the Northeast Cape Fear River in New Hanover County need to be aware of scheduled lane closures beginning Wednesday, April 25.

The closures are needed so Department of Transportation crews can safely inspect the bridge as required by the Federal Highway Administration.

The closures will be in place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day through Friday, April 27, with one lane remaining open in each direction.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay extra attention when approaching the bridge during the lane closures for their own safety, as well as the workers conducting the inspection.
