Bridge Inspections on the Holden Beach Bridge Require Lane Closures on Friday

WILMINGTON – Drivers traveling on the Holden Beach Bridge/ N.C. 130 over the Intracoastal Waterway in Brunswick County will likely encounter intermittent lane closures on Friday, Feb. 23. The closures are needed so Department of Transportation crews can safely inspect the bridge.

The closures will be in place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Although there will not be any detours, drivers are urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are also advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone and expect possible delays.

The Federal Highway Administration requires all bridges to be inspected once every two years. Regular inspections help the department identify whether a bridge needs maintenance and repair. If inspectors find a safety concern, the bridge will be repaired or closed immediately until the repairs can be made.  If necessary, weight restrictions will be placed on a bridge. The department will not keep a bridge open if it is determined to be unsafe.
