Bridge Work For N.C. 119 Project to Detour Traffic Along Interstate 40/85

MEBANE – While N.C. Department of Transportation contractors set supports for a new bridge as part of the N.C. 119 Relocation Project in Mebane, traffic will need to be diverted for the safety of drivers and workers starting tomorrow.

“Once complete this bridge will be part of a brand new Diverging Diamond Interchange, the first of its kind in Alamance County,” said NCDOT Assistant Resident Engineer Stephen Robinson.

The following closures on I-40/I-85 at South 5th Street will be needed during overnight hours this week.

  • Lanes along I-85 northbound and I-40 eastbound between mile markers 152 and 154 will be narrowed starting at 8 p.m. and then will close at Exit 153 from 1 a.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 28. Once closed, drivers can detour using the on and off ramps at Exit 153.
  • Three of four lanes along I-85 southbound and I-40 westbound will also be closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 28, during construction.

Drivers can avoid construction by using the suggested alternate route along Trollingwood Hawfields Road and Mebane Oaks Road.

Transportation officials remind motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
