FAYETTEVILLE – On Wednesday, March 28,
traffic will be shifting onto the newly built portion of Camden Road in
Cumberland County.
A state Department of Transportation contractor is widening the
road to four lanes between Oakland Avenue and Owen Drive. About half of the
two-mile segment opened last year.
For the other half – roughly between Natal Road and Owen Drive –
Highland Paving Co. crews need to shift traffic onto the two new lanes to
complete the concrete median and reconstruct the other two lanes. Law
enforcement and workers with flags will direct the shift, and motorists should
drive slowly and cautiously through the work zone.
The entire project is expected to be completed by this fall.
Highland Paving, which is based in Fayetteville, was awarded the $12 million
construction contract in 2014.
