Connecting Ramp Temporarily Closed in Polk County

ASHEVILLE — Freezing temperatures last week postponed construction work at the intersection of Interstate 26 and U.S. 74 until today.

For two days, a contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing a ramp from I-26 West to U.S. 74 East on Tuesday as part of the interchange improvement.

Traffic on I-26 westbound seeking to go east on U.S. 74 East will be detoured to N.C. 108 through Columbus. To do so, motorists should take Exit 67, enter the roundabout, and take the first right to N.C. 108/West Mills Street. From there, follow N.C. 108 through Columbus to the interchange with U.S. 74.

Through traffic on I-26 in either direction will not be impacted, nor will traffic from U.S. 74 West seeking to head either direction on I-26. Columbus traffic seeking to access I-26 West will not be affected by this closure.
