Contracts Awarded to Resurface Mecklenburg and Union County Roads

CHARLOTTE – Two contracts have been awarded by the Department of Transportation to bring improvements to 23 miles of state roads in Mecklenburg County, and 14 miles of Union County roadways.

In Mecklenburg County, contractor Blythe Brothers Asphalt Co., LLC of Charlotte will mill, resurface and reconstruct shoulders on sections of U.S. 21, U.S. 29, N.C. 16, N.C. 27, and 18 segments of secondary roads, getting underway as early as June 25. The $7.8 million project is scheduled for completion in September 2019.

The second contract calls for improvements to about 14 miles of Union County roads. The $3 million project has been awarded to Blythe Construction Inc. to mill, resurface, and rebuild shoulders on portions of Antioch Church Road, Waxhaw-Marvin Road, and 25 additional sections of secondary roads countywide.

Work can start as early as June 25, to be completed by June 20, 2019.

These were two of 18 road, rail and bridge contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth $144.4 million.
