Grove Street Bridge in Cumberland County to Close Next Month for Repairs

UPDATED NEWS RELEASE: The bridge closed to all traffic on Feb. 28, 2018.

FAYETTEVILLE – The Grove Street (N.C. 24) bridge over the Cape Fear River will close for about one month starting in March for repair and maintenance work that will extend its longevity.

Contractor ACC West Coast LLC of Benicia, Calif., will make concrete repairs below the bridge and replace deck joints on the driving surface. The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the $999,500 contract in December.

The bridge was built in 1974 and carries about 25,000 vehicles each day.

Traffic impacts will start Monday, Feb. 19, when the contractor will need to close both inside lanes of the four-lane bridge for two weeks to perform preliminary work. If the weather cooperates, the contractor will close the bridge to all traffic on Monday, March 5. The bridge is expected to be closed for 28 days.

Portable message signs will advise the public in advance of the lane closures and subsequent detour.

While the bridge is closed, local residents will be detoured using Cedar Creek Road (N.C. 53) and Clinton Road, which becomes Person Street, and U.S. 301/Business 95.
