CLEMMONS – N.C. Department of
Transportation contractors will reopen a section of Hampton Road in Forsyth County early next week that
has been closed since February for construction of a new intersection.
“Spring storms delayed the opening previously scheduled
for Monday, May 14, however thanks to a few dry days the contractor will be able
to finalize work with a brief closure this weekend ahead of the reopening,” said
NCDOT Engineer Pat Ivey. “We once again thank the public for the continued
interest in the project and patience as it comes to an end.”
In order to construct new roadway tie-ins, the project site will be
closed at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18, and will reopen in the new configuration no
later than 6 a.m. Monday, May 21.
The work is part of
the Idols Road extension project that started in the summer of 2016.
Once complete, this wider intersection and extension
will increase capacity, provide exclusive turn lanes, and ultimately improve
safety for drivers in this area.
