I-85/U.S. 29 Construction in Rowan County Requires Overnight Detour

CHINA GROVE – U.S. 29 South near N.C. 152 in Rowan County will lose for two consecutive nights early next week for work associated with widening Interstate 85.

The temporary closure will include the loop that carries westbound traffic from N.C. 152 onto U.S. 29 South.

Weather permitting, the closure will begin shortly after 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, and end by 6 a.m. the same day. The closure will repeat after 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and end that morning before the rush hour.

A signed detour will direct I-85 southbound traffic to Exit 70 (Webb Road) to reach U.S. 29 South. N.C. 152 westbound traffic will be detoured to Webb Road and U.S. 29 South.

The closures are needed to allow contract crews to safely perform work needed to replace the N.C. 152 bridge over U.S. 29. The N.C. Department of Transportation is widening an 8-mile stretch of the interstate in Cabarrus and Rowan counties.
