WINSTON-SALEM – Nighttime lane closures
ended Jan. 2 on Business 40 as North Carolina Department of Transportation
contractors wrapped up phase-one bridge support work on the Peters Creek Parkway
bridge as part of the Business 40
Improvement Project.
“While these closures have
ended, drivers on Business 40 can expect sporadic daytime lane closures along
Peters Creek Parkway between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. over the next few months for
roadway work,” said NCDOT Resident Engineer Mezak Tucker.
Project work will also mean future closures at the following
locations:
- Liberty Street will be narrowed to two lanes between Business 40
and Cemetery Street for three weeks starting Monday, Jan. 8, while demolition
work starts on the CBI building.
- The following week, starting Monday, Jan. 15, Liberty Street will
be narrowed to one lane for demolition work of the Steam Academy building.
These lane closures will end Friday, Feb. 2, weather
permitting.
“Narrowing lanes will allow crews to work
safety alongside traffic while maintaining connectivity for drivers in this
area,” said NCDOT Division Engineer Pat Ivey.
Near
the end of the month, closures in the vicinity of Apple Street and Gregory
Street will be needed for rock removal work.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction
information, stay alert, slow down in the work zone and obey the posted speed
limit.
