Lexington - N.C. Department of
Transportation contractors will begin work Monday, April 16, replacing the N.C.
47 bridge that crosses Flat Swamp Creek between Frank Road and Young Road near
Lexington.
The bridge, built in 1950, was closed on
January 22, after a routine inspection revealed significant deterioration on the
beams of the bridge. Work will be completed by November.
Traffic will be able to detour around the closure by using Young Road, Regan Road and
Frank Road.
The project is part of the department’s
overall bridge
program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges and ensure the
safety of drivers who rely on them.
NCDOT reminds
motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the
posted speed limit.
