WINSTON-SALEM – Construction on what will be the Eastern Loop of the
Winston-Salem Northern Beltway will require nightly lane closures on part of I-40 Business, starting this week.
Crews working on the future I-74 – from U.S. 421/Business 40 to U.S. 158 – will install girders over Business 40, affecting traffic between South Main Street (mile marker 14) in Kernersville and Linville Road (mile marker 10) in Winston-Salem.
Weather permitting, westbound Business 40 will be reduced to one lane, beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, and will close entirely by late Monday night. Both lanes will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Tuesday. (View detour information.)
Crews also plan to close one lane of Business 40 West each night from Tuesday through Friday and reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and by 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Similar closures are planned later this week for eastbound Business 40.
