Pedestrian Safety Project in Pender County Requires Lane Closures

One Lane Will Remain Open in Each Direction

JACKSONVILLE— Drivers traveling on Walker Street in Burgaw should expect to encounter intermittent lane closures beginning Monday, Jan. 29. The closures are needed so the Department of Transportation can build a 3,200-foot long, five-foot-wide sidewalk.

“This project will provide a safe walkway on Walker Street for more than half a mile” said Jacksonville NCDOT Resident Engineer Trevor Carroll.

The closures will be in place from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each weekday until the end of May.

No detours are required; however, transportation officials urge motorists to use caution while traveling through the work zone and to expect possible delays.
