LUMBERTON – A new bridge is on the way
in Robeson County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded a $564,029
contract to The Tara Group of Lumberton Inc. to replace the North Broadridge
Road bridge over Tenmile Branch, a creek south of Lumberton.
While the 63-year-old bridge is safe, it’s narrow and has wooden
components below its concrete decks that require more frequent maintenance. The
new structure will be wider and meet today’s traffic needs.
The contractor will begin the project by closing the road before
March 15 and demolishing the bridge. The new bridge is expected to open about
six months later.
This was one of eight road and bridge projects recently awarded by
the department. They were worth about $110.6 million, about $20.2 million under
engineer estimates.
