Sixty-Two-Year-Old Bridge Being Replaced in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH – A 500-foot section of Buckhorn Road between Bradshaw Quarry Road and Orange Grove Road in Orange County will close starting Monday, May 7, so N.C. Department of Transportation contractors can begin replacing the aging bridge that crosses Cane Creek.

The roadway will close from 7 a.m. until work is complete Friday, Aug. 10. Local traffic will still be able to access locations on either side of the bridge up to the point of closure.

Built in 1956, the existing bridge no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it and has reached the end of its life cycle.

North and southbounddrivers can detour around the closure using Bradshaw Quarry Road and Orange Grove Road.

This project is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges and ensure the safety of drivers who rely on them.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
