Smoother Driving Conditions are Coming to I-85 in Gaston County

GASTONIA – Resurfacing operations are underway on a six-mile stretch of Interstate 85 in both directions between mile marker 22 and the Mecklenburg County line, The $12.4 million project also includes guardrail installation, bridge rehabilitation work, and the addition of long-life pavement markings.

To safely perform the work, contractor Blythe Construction will intermittently close two of three lanes on I-85 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and three of four lanes in the vicinity of the Catawba River Bridge.

Intermittent ramp closures may also be needed to safety resurface those areas. If weather delays the work, closures may be rescheduled.

Work is expected to continue through the end of August. Transportation officials remind motorists to drive safely, obey all posted speed limits and work-zone postings.
