GASTONIA – Resurfacing operations are
underway on a six-mile stretch of Interstate 85 in both directions between mile
marker 22 and the Mecklenburg County line, The $12.4 million project also
includes guardrail installation, bridge rehabilitation work, and the addition of
long-life pavement markings.
To safely perform the work, contractor Blythe Construction will
intermittently close two of three lanes on I-85 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday
through Thursday, and three of four lanes in the vicinity of the Catawba River
Bridge.
Intermittent ramp closures may also be needed to safety resurface
those areas. If weather delays the work, closures may be rescheduled.
Work is expected to continue through the end of August.
Transportation officials remind motorists to drive safely, obey all posted speed
limits and work-zone postings.
