CLEMMONS – N.C. Department of
Transportation contractors will close a section of Hampton Road between Idols Road and U.S. 158, while they
construct a new intersection in Clemmons.
The work is
part of the Idols Road extension project that started in the summer of 2016.
“Once complete this wider intersection and extension
will increase capacity, provide exclusive turn lanes, and ultimately improve
safety for drivers in this area,” said NCDOT Division Engineer Pat Ivey.
Crews will close the road at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, Monday, Feb. 26,
due to rain delay. It is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, April 16,
weather permitting.
A signed detour will be in place
allowing drivers to navigate around the closure using Hampton Road, Idols Road,
Middlebrook Drive and U.S. 158. Motorists will still be able to access locations
on either side of the closure up to the point of closure.
The department encourages motorists to pay attention when approaching
the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their
destinations safely.
