HOPE MILLS – A project to resurface and
improve the safety of the N.C. 59 (North and South Main Street) corridor through
Hope Mills is expected to wrap up by this summer.
A contract crew for the N.C. Department of Transportation resumed
work this week on the project, which stretches between Camden Road and Parkton
Road; about half of the 2.2-mile section is getting a concrete median.
The only unfinished segment is about two blocks long – roughly
between the Walmart and the State Employees Credit Union. NCDOT last year
delayed finishing this segment until engineers could redesign the new median,
add a turn lane and install a traffic signal on North Main Street to accommodate
the new Lowe’s store and a development across from Lowes. The delay also
required relocating buried utility lines. The delay allowed the developers to
make roadway improvements as well.
The $1.9 million project by Highland Paving Co. of Fayetteville is
now scheduled to be completed in about two months, if the weather
cooperates.
Drivers will encounter lane closures in this segment and should be
alert and obey all work zone postings.
Work has resumed on constructing the final section of N.C. 59 in
Hope Mills
