Public Meeting for Proposed Sunset Road Roundabouts in Mecklenburg County

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting next week regarding a proposed project to build two single-lane roundabouts where Sunset Road meets Oakdale/Miranda/Lawing Roads, and at Oakdale/Simpson Roads in northwest Charlotte.

The purpose of the project is to provide safer, more efficient traffic flow. Driving through roundabouts at slower speeds reduces the frequency and severity of accidents. Travel time is also reduced due to smoother traffic flow, rather than stop-and-go conditions at signalized intersections.

The meeting will be held Monday, April 29 from 4- 7 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road. Interested citizens may attend the meeting at any time as no formal presentation will be made.

People who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments in writing, by phone or email through May 17. All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design.
For additional information about the proposed project, please contact Theo Ghitea, NCDOT Division 10 Project Manager at 716 W. Main Street, Albemarle, N.C., 28001, 704-983-4400 or tghitea@ncdot.gov.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Lauren Putnam at 919-707-6072 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and do not speak English, or have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English, may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
