Public Meeting on Proposed I-40 Interchange Improvements Set for Next Week

COLFAX – Proposed improvements to the Interstate 40 interchange at Sandy Ridge Road in Guilford County will be showcased at a public meeting next week.

The N.C. Department of Transportation intends to make the interchange safer and better equipped to handle current and future traffic volumes to accommodate increased development. The proposed improvements include widening the interchange bridge and upgrades to turn lanes, interchange ramps and signals. The project will also widen Sandy Ridge Road between Norcross Road and just north of Cider Road; and provide improvements to Triad Drive and Farrington Road. The City of Greensboro requested this project via the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

A project map and other details are available on the NCDOT public meeting website.

The preferred alternative route that emerged from the early studies will be presented at a final public meeting set for Tuesday, May 21, from 4-7 p.m. at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, 119 N. Bunker Hill Road in Colfax.

The public can drop by at any time during the open house-style meeting to review the project map, speak with project representatives and offer input that will be considered as project plans are finalized. Comments may also be submitted by phone or email by June 21.
