Lane Closures for Next Phase of I-40/I-77 Improvements

STATESVILLE -  N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will begin temporary widening work along both directions of Interstate 40 between Old Mocksville Road and N.C. 115 on Tuesday, May 28. The work is for the next phase of improvements at the I-40 and I-77 intersection in Iredell County.

The widening work will require closing the left lane, beginning on I-40 West, then shifting to I-40 East. The lane closures will be in place each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next month.

While the lane closures are in place, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 miles an hour.
The $260 million project includes widening approximately 7.4 miles of both interstates from four lanes to eight lanes, and building a partial turbine interchange, which involves high-speed, high-capacity ramps.

Bridges over I-77 at East Broad Street and Davie Avenue will also be replaced.

Construction activities will be gearing up in the fall. The project should be completed by the end of 2022.
