SMITHFIELD – Drivers who use Cleveland Road in Johnston County should expect daytime delays when crews begin a resurfacing project on June 17.
The work will be done between Interstate 40 and near N.C. 210 and will last about one month. Drivers can expect encountering flagging operations and taking turns using a single lane when the two-lane sections of Cleveland Road are under construction. The contractor generally will maintain two-way traffic on the three-lane portion of the road.
The work zone hours will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and sometimes on Saturday.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor, S.T. Wooten, of Wilson, will mill, resurface and restripe the road with temporary lane markings within the four-week period, weather permitting. The contractor will return later this summer to place permanent pavement markings that are brighter and longer-lasting.
Motorists should stay alert, watch for signs and flag operators and expect delays during construction.
