WILMINGTON – A contract to build a new bridge in Brunswick County has been awarded.
S & C Construction, LLC. of Wilmington received a nearly $2.5 million to build a new bridge over Bear Pen Island Swamp on Green Swamp Road between U.S. 17 and U.S. 74.
While it is considered structurally deficient, the current bridge is still safe for drivers and will be used while the contractor builds the new one. That eliminates the need for a detour route.
The contractor may begin work in late July and has until May of 2020 to complete the work.
This is one of six road and bridge projects recently awarded by the Department, at a cost of nearly $53.8 million.
