Johnston County Road Project Requires Closure for Railroad Work

SELMA – Ricks Road in Johnston County will be closed to through traffic for about two weeks starting July 15 to allow the CSX Corp. to reconstruct its railroad crossing.

The signed detour will take drivers on U.S. 70 and U.S. 301. Ricks Road in Selma is a popular shortcut for both highways.

The closure dates could change based on inclement weather or the CSX contractor schedule. Updates on the closure and the detour will posted at DriveNC.gov as they become available. At the top of that web page, type “Johnston County” and scroll down for a list of local closures.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is widening the road. The project will add a middle turn lane and concrete curbs and gutters. As part of the project, CSX will replace and extend its railroad crossing over Ricks Road.

The $3.6 million widening project is on pace to be completed and opened to traffic by this fall.
