Roundabout Construction to Start at Union County Intersection

FAIRVIEW – Drivers will soon notice a new traffic pattern at the intersection of N.C. 218 and Mill Grove Road in Fairview as construction on a roundabout gets underway Monday, July 8, weather permitting.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will need about six weeks to complete the project. It that will improve safety and travel time for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, while reducing congestion and backups that take place at more typical intersections with stop signs and traffic signals.

To get around the construction, drivers heading east on N.C. 218 from Interstate 485 will be detoured along Rock Hill Church Road, Lawyers Road, Mill Grove Road and Noah Helms Road, returning to N.C. 218.

Westbound drivers will follow a detour along Crowell Dairy Road, Mill Grove Road, Lawyers Road and Rock Hill Church Road, back to N.C. 218.

NCDOT has produced a video showing how roundabouts work and improve overall safety.
