I-277 Improvements Continue with Ramp, Lane Closures

CHARLOTTE – Starting tonight, additional lane closures will be in place along sections of I-277 as work continues on a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along the corridor.

Starting at 9 p.m., lane closures will be installed for bridge work on the outer loop between South Boulevard and U.S. 74. The closures will be removed by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, lane closures will be in place on the outer loop between South Tryon Street and South McDowell Street. The closures will be in place until 6 a.m. Thursday, continuing each night through Saturday morning, Aug. 3.

This weekend, the entrance ramp from I-77 South to the outer loop (exit 9B) will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5.

Detour information will be online at DriveNC.gov under Mecklenburg County.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.
