CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close access from the Interstate 485 Outer Loop to N.C. 49 (exit 33) at 9 tonight, weather permitting. The closure is part of a $10.8 million resurfacing contract that will provide drivers a better riding surface along a stretch of I-485 between I-85 and Rocky River Road.
During the closure, drivers on the Outer Loop need to exit at U.S. 29 (exit 32), continuing south, making a U-turn at Morningstar Place Drive to return to I-485.
The contractor will also close three of four lanes on the Inner Loop just beyond the U.S. 29 exit for bridge work. All lane closures will be removed by 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.
The closures may be rescheduled if rain affects the contractor’s progress.
Drivers should slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour route and be alert for construction crews or equipment.
