GOLDSBORO – A bridge on North Beston Road east of Goldsboro is scheduled to close Monday morning to allow contract crews to begin replacing it.
The contractor will demolish the 66-year-old bridge over Bear Creek and build a new bridge. Drivers will be detoured onto New Hope Road, Hope Road, Mark Edwards Road and Parkstown Road.
The road is scheduled to reopen with the new bridge by the end of December.
The existing structure is functionally obsolete, which means it no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it. And while safe, it has become structurally deficient, requiring more frequent maintenance.
United Contractors Inc. of Iowa will do the work under a contract of about $800,000 awarded last year by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
