New Durham Freeway/NC-147 Northbound Lanes to Open Saturday Morning

DURHAM — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are set to open new northbound lanes on N.C. 147/Durham Freeway this weekend.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, northbound N.C. 147 will be detoured using Ellis Road to Cornwallis Road to N.C. 55 (Alston Avenue) and back onto N.C. 147.

This detour will allow crews to make the necessary pavement tie-ins and move portable concrete barriers for the traffic shift. At least one lane along the new stretch is scheduled to open by 6 a.m., and both lanes by 10 a.m.

Work will continue to take place behind barriers on the northern end of N.C. 147 over the next few months, however, two northbound lanes will remain open.

The East End Connector between N.C. 147 and U.S. 70 is still under construction. It is estimated to be completed June 2020.
