Demolition Work to Reroute U.S. 421 Traffic this Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM – A span of U.S. 421 will close in both directions as a demolition project takes place this weekend in Forsyth County.

N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to demolish the old Peace Haven Road bridge at U.S. 421 starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. The road recently shifted to a new adjacent bridge over the highway.

The demolition is expected to last until 6 a.m. Sunday. Until then, detours will be in place for U.S. 421.

Northbound traffic will exit at Peace Haven Road and proceed through the intersection to enter back onto U.S. 421. Southbound through traffic will exit at Lewisville Clemmons Road and head to I-40. Local traffic heading toward Peace Haven Road and Jonestown will turn left from Lewisville Clemmons road onto Peace Haven Road.

This work is part of a project to improve the interchange in preparation for construction of the future Winston-Salem Northern Beltway interchange with U.S. 421, just west of Peace Haven Road.

Drivers should watch out for the temporary traffic patterns and expect some delays because of the detours.
