Cumberland County Road to Close for Pipe Installation

HOPE MILLS – Drainage work will require a section of Chickenfoot Road south of Interstate 95’s exit 41 to close this weekend.

An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor plans to close the road near Sand Hill Road, starting at 6 tonight, to install one drainage pipe and extend another one underneath the roadway.

A detour will send motorists onto Sand Hill Road, Cypress Lakes Road and H. Bullard Road to access Chickenfoot Road.

The NCDOT plans to reopen the road by 6 a.m. Monday, just in time for the first day for students returning to Cumberland County public schools.

The digging can’t be done in the rain, so the contractor may require an additional weekend not yet scheduled in order to complete the pipe work.

The new culverts are part of a safety improvement project to realign Sand Hill Road and Braxton Road to form one intersection with Chickenfoot Road. A traffic signal will be installed as part of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
