NCDOT Crews Repairing Drainage in Madison County

LAUREL – N.C. Department of Transportation crews will close a short section of N.C. 212 in Madison County for three days to replace a pipe previously damaged by heavy storms.

Madison County Maintenance crews will be working two miles east of the intersection of N.C. 208 and N.C. 212 and have that section of road closed from Sept. 9-11. Crews will maintain a one-lane work zone with temporary signal lights from Sept. 12-20 to replace a culvert and install a concrete headwall at that location.

The detour guides westbound car traffic from N.C. 212 to Franklin Mountain Road to N.C. 208 and back to N.C. 212. Eastbound car traffic will take N.C. 208 to Franklin Mountain Road  to N.C. 212. Trucks longer than 48 feet are prohibited on N.C. 212 and should choose an alternate route.

Flooding earlier this year damaged these drainage structures, and crews made temporary repairs at the time. These repairs will have long lasting benefits and improve drainage along the corridor.

Transportation officials advise drivers to plan ahead for the detour, and exercise safety and patience while driving through the work zone.
