SHELBY – As work continues on the Shelby Bypass in Cleveland County, several temporary lane closures will be needed on N.C.180 between Airport Road and Cherryville Road so crews can safely set bridge girders.
The first closure will take place from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, until midnight Sunday, Oct. 13, when N.C. 180 will be closed to traffic near Cherryville Road. Drivers will follow a posted detour from N.C. 180 along Cherryville Road, U.S. 74/N.C. 150, North Dekalb Street/N.C. 18 and Fallston Road/N.C. 18, returning to N.C. 180.
Additional work will take place in the same area on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 15 and 16, when flaggers will let traffic through one direction at a time from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
