KERNERSVILLE – State transportation contractors plan to close a lane of Business 40 for several weeks as part of ongoing work on the eastern section of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway.
A short section of the outside eastbound lane is set to close at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 so crews can begin installing a noise wall along the shoulder near Hastings Hill Road. The lane is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. on Nov. 25.
The closure is scheduled to be extended east from Hastings Hill Road to just west of Exit 14/South Main Street from 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 until 6 a.m. on Nov. 20. This will allow the contractor to pave this stretch of the eastbound side under shifting closures.
Drivers should slow down and be mindful of the crews working close to the travel lanes throughout this area.
Those who want to avoid Business 40 while the closure is in place can use U.S. 52, Interstate 40 and N.C. 66 as alternative routes.
