MINT HILL – Improvements are on the way for a section of Interstate 485 between N.C. 51 and Idlewild Road, thanks to a $7 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded last month to Blythe Construction Inc.
Using a technique called pavement rehabilitation, the Charlotte-based contractor will extend the service life of the existing pavement by removing any material that may be aged, embrittled or cracked.
The pavement thickness may also be increased to strengthen existing sections to accommodate current or future traffic volumes.
Work can get underway as soon as Nov. 25, with completion scheduled for Nov. 15, 2020.
