Public Meeting Set for Franklin Boulevard and Naco Road Projects

GREENSBORO – The public is invited to a meeting this week to review and offer input on several proposed roadway improvements in eastern Greensboro.

The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes the following safety improvements for rail crossings on the North Carolina Railroad Company corridor:

Franklin Boulevard Project

  • Create a grade separation where Franklin Boulevard currently crosses the railroad track. Grade separation means using a bridge to separate intersecting roads and/or railroads.
  • Close the O’Ferrell Street rail crossing.

Naco Road Project

  • Extend Naco Road to U.S. 70 (Burlington Road).
  • Create grade separations at Ward Road and Wagoner Bend Road.
  • Close rail crossings at Maxfield Road and Buchanan Church Road.

These improvements are needed to reduce the potential for collisions between trains and the growing number of vehicles using the at-grade crossings.

The meeting is set for Thursday, Nov. 21 from 4-7 p.m. at Genesis Baptist Church, 2812 E. Bessemer Ave. in Greensboro. People can drop by at any time during those hours to review maps of the proposed improvements, speak with project representatives and offer input that will be considered as the projects develop.

Maps and project information can also be found on the NCDOT public meeting webpage and the project website.

People may also submit comments by phone or email by Dec. 5.
