RURAL HALL – The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to permanently close the connector between U.S. 52 and N.C. 66 on Dec. 9 at noon.
The connector, numbered as SR-1840 in Forsyth County, will no longer be necessary as the new U.S. 52 tie in for the future Interstate 74/Winston-Salem Northern Beltway will pass through this area. The new connection is tentatively scheduled to open to traffic by late 2021.
Drivers are advised to begin considering alternate routes for when the closure goes into effect. Alternative access points are Hanes Mill Road and the University Parkway interchange with U.S. 52.
Message boards will be installed on U.S. 52 and N.C. 66/University Parkway to alert the public of the upcoming change.
