STATESVILLE– The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing tonight for several traffic shifts along Interstate 40 as part of the I-40/I-77 interchange improvement project. Drivers on I-40 in both directions between N.C. 115 (exit 150) and Old Mocksville Road (exit 154) will be shifted toward the median, so widening work can get underway.
Tonight, work will start at 8 p.m. on I-40 West between Old Mocksville Road and I-77. The 1.5-mile shift should be complete by 6 a.m. Friday. Contract crews will shift the eastbound lanes in the same area, starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Additional lane shifts will be scheduled in the coming weeks, with work being suspended over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
